Statement of aims - Draft

1 / 2
How do you intend to use the four areas of the media theoretical framework to communicate meaning and meet the requirements of your chosen brief? (approx. 400 words)
I intend to produce a radio show that will suit my specified audience of 16-25-year olds who are socially conscious and are of a middle – to upmarket demographic. As the primary aim is to attract more young adult listeners, I will use the conventions of podcast – that being intimate and personal with debate – style discussions as through my audience research; it was evident that there was an increase of podcasts being the direct stream of radio for my target audience. The content of the radio show assumes a certain degree of social and cultural conscious, still considering the age group of 16-25-year olds. I will attract younger adult listeners through the different segments and themes presented throughout the show. The theme of conspiracy theories will be used to attract listeners as it is interesting and not commonly discussed in radio shows or podcasts. It will also provide the opportunity to interact with the audience using ‘phone-ins’ and through listeners contacting the show to provide conspiracy theories for myself and the panellists to discuss. Intertextuality may also be used when, for example, a conspiracy about extra terrestrial occurrences arose, a sound effect or clip may be used from an established and recognised film such as E.T to allow the audience to identify and add entertainment to the theory.
Product 2
From my research into different radio show  websites, there are many features that I wish to emulate in my own. I attained a strong sense of audience participation and how important it is throughout all the websites I researched. For example, contacting the show through various ways such as email, phone and social media. I will also include pages where the audience can write back to us, whether that be feedback or participating in the show – this adheres to Clay Shirky’s end of audience theory as now, due to technology, the audience are expected to be able to give feedback and participate within the show. Media language conventions such as a colour scheme are something that i wish to keep consistent throughout both of my products to create a strong sense of brand identity. The websites i researched were easy to navigate as well as having moving images throughout. I wish to replicate this by having a muted colour palette with a brightly saturated masthead and include moving images to entice my audience and make my website interesting.
How do you intend to link your media products to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the digitally convergent nature of your media production? (approx. 100 words)
Through my research of radio shows and their websites, I gained an understanding of the importance of brand identity as well as the two products linking. As my audience are dynamic and young, I believe it would be vital I have not only social media and posts from there embedded in my website, but also to have behind the scene footage from recording the podcast as well as footage of extra games and quizzes that will provide the audience with extra entertainment as well as still being informative and assuming a certain degree of social and cultural competence. By using the posts on my website, it will ensure that there is an established sense of brand identity.
